Rotary Club of Punta Gorda Sports Complex Flooring Replacement project

 

 

The success of the facility relies on the beautiful, hardwood basketball court. In our tropical climate, proper maintenance is of paramount importance. A dedicated maintenance team works diligently to preserve the basketball court floor through careful management. This includes the use of protective rubber mats which cover the basketball court when the facility is used for other purposes. These protective mats, made in Ohio from synthetic rubber and installed when the building was built in 2016, are decomposing over time due to the tropical climate. Many of the 300 mats need replacement. If left in their current state, the mats will soon no longer be functional which will result in severe damage to the facility’s hardwood basketball court and, if damaged, the basketball court will no longer meet regulation standards.

 

 

          

 

The Rotary Club of Punta Gorda has been asked by the community to help preserve this wonderful sports complex facility by protecting the flooring. To this end, we respectfully request your help supporting our efforts through our partner, Believe in Belize, to raise funds to purchase new protective rubber floor mats.

 

 

 

Thanks to our generous donors, we successfully reached our fundraising goal of $2000 USD ($4000 BZD) and in late 2024, we purchased the floor mats. We were able to purchase 45 floor mats which actually exceeded our goal! The floor mats were manufactured in the USA, rolled up and shipped to Maryland where in early April, 2025 they were loaded into the shipping container that will be shipped to Belize in May (see photos below).
